There's a flower that blooms in the hills around Dehradun every late winter — just as the cold is starting to think about leaving. White-petalled, impossibly fragrant, the kind of flower that makes bees lose their sense of direction. And yet, most people who've walked past it every single season have never once stopped to learn its name.

This pendant holds that moment.

The harlequin glorybower blossoms at exactly the wrong time for a resin artist. When the flowers open, the temperatures in the hills are still too low and that cold clouds the finish, kills the clarity I spend months chasing. So the flowers are gathered, and then they wait. Pressed. Dried slowly over several months until every trace of moisture is gone. Only when the weather finally cooperates can the work of setting them begin.

From blossom to finished pendant: just over a year.

The hardest part was the white. Pressed flowers almost always lose it, the petals bruise, yellow, go translucent in the press. Getting the white to hold through drying and setting, and still read as white against black resin, took more failed attempts than I'd like to admit. What you're looking at now is the version that made it. And if you look closely, the pollen stems are still there, exactly as they were the day the flower was picked.
